Why did you choose Baptist?
I had the opportunity to complete a month-long rotation at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center during my fourth and final year of pharmacy school. During my time here, I felt so welcomed by all the staff and motivated to be a better student and pharmacist. I left that rotation feeling accomplished and well-rounded. I thought that if I was able to gain so much from one month that a year-long residency here would be very beneficial for me.

What is your day like?
Every day is different, but with each new month comes a new experience. I typically go and see all my patients in the morning and continue to monitor them throughout the day. To fill in the gaps we have projects to work on or we may have students with us so that we are able to get some precepting experience. Being able to follow your own patients over time and see the impact that your care has made on them is such a valuable experience for me, and it is very rewarding to be able to see positive outcomes from my own clinical decision making.

Why did you choose pharmacy as a career?
While I was in high school, I was able to work at a small independent pharmacy in Flowood, Mississippi. During my time there I was able to get good insight into a pharmacist's workflow and observe the patient interactions they have. I really enjoyed working there, and I loved all the patient relationships that I built over the years. All of the pharmacists there were very motivating and continued to allow me to work when I was home for breaks or on weekends. My work experience along with the support of the pharmacists is what made me want to pursue a career in pharmacy.

Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
One of the best parts of this residency is the people that you have along with you. Every pharmacist is very motivating and supportive all while trying to ensure a good work-life balance. Mississippi Baptist Medical Center has very unique protocols that allow pharmacists to be fully immersed in a patient's care and able to independently contribute to clinical decision making.

Why did you choose Baptist?
I chose Mississippi Baptist Medical Center because of the opportunity to learn alongside the preceptors here. Each preceptor genuinely cares about you as a resident and wants to help guide you to success. They challenge you, while providing an enjoyable learning environment.

What is your day like?
Each day is different. I start my day preparing for pharmacy clinical service rounds. This includes patient work ups and creating treatment plans before rounding with the team. The afternoons include completing new consults, topic discussions, and projects. I also have the opportunity to attend clinical meetings and assist in precepting pharmacy students. The most rewarding part of my day is seeing the impact my recommendations have on optimizing patient care.

Why did you choose pharmacy as a career?
I have wanted to be a pharmacist from a very young age. I saw how one medication can change someone’s life and knew I wanted to be part of helping patients in that way. Pharmacy provides many different career paths that can positively impact patient care.

Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
Mississippi Baptist Medical Center Pharmacy Residency program provides many opportunities to grow personally and professionally. The preceptors provide rotation experiences that challenge you to become a well-rounded clinical pharmacist. The relationships formed at Baptist make the challenge of residency year enjoyable.

Why did you choose Baptist?
I chose Baptist because I feel very welcomed and supported here. It is important to me to work in an environment where your coworkers encourage you and push you to be the best version of yourself. That's what the environment feels like here at Baptist.

What is your day like?
Each day is different during residency, and I find different rewarding experiences throughout the day. Whether it be learning how to perform a new task or making a recommendation that was accepted by the treatment team, I try to face the challenges the day brings by looking at them as a way to learn something new and provide insight to the problem at hand. Each month we get to experience a new rotation in the inpatient setting which allows us to gain more experience in different areas of specialty.

Why did you choose pharmacy as a career?
I chose pharmacy because I knew I wanted to work in the health care field, and I knew I wanted to help others. After shadowing in multiple medical areas, I found pharmacy to be the best fit for me. As a pharmacist, I am able to problem solve and give back by optimizing patient care whether it be lending a helping hand or providing medication information.

Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
I would recommend Baptist to prospective applicants because here they will gain further practice experience in the inpatient setting of pharmacy, and they will be encouraged by a great pharmacy staff, their RPD, RPC and clinical preceptors.
