U.S. News & World Report recognizes Baptist Memphis as No. 1 hospital in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis was recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the No. 1 hospital in the Memphis metro area and the No. 3 hospital in Tennessee.

The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 33rd year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.

Baptist Memphis was also recognized with 12 High Performing ratings for congestive heart failure, colon cancer surgery, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), diabetes, heart attack, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, stroke and uterine cancer surgery.

For the 2022–2023 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. State and metro area rankings reflect the highest performing hospitals in the area across multiple areas of care.

U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance using a variety of measures, such as survival rates, complication rates, patient experience and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals methodology factors in data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations and medical specialists.

The Baptist Memphis campus includes the 706-bed hospital, which is the flagship of the Baptist Memorial Health Care system. It serves as a major referral center for patients from across the Mid-South and offers many diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitation services. The hospital has added hundreds of beds in the past few years, with the opening of a new patient tower and the Baptist Heart Institute. According to HealthGrades, an independent health care ratings organization, Baptist Memphis’ cardiac surgery, stroke, gastrointestinal, pulmonary and critical care programs were among the top 5 percent in the nation in 2009, resulting in the facility receiving Specialty Excellence Awards.
